TL DR: Spotify and Smart Lights work together to create custom and ever changing color palettes for smart lights based on the song playing. A change, pause, skip, or repeat in music will result in a quick message to the Smart Lights that will then repeat the cycle. The palettes are uniquely selected from the colors on the Album, Artist, or Playlist (at user’s discretion). The smart light service then will calculate the time until the end of the output, and get read to change the palettes. Color variants Color variants are variables that apply color to the UI, and their values are generated from the color roles. There are 10 color roles, which we use to generate the values of all the color variants in the palette. How to get your color palette from Spotify Enter the page Login with your Spotify account The page will do the analysis and show you your color palette based on your musical. Spotify creates a quick access link or some port that allows the color and time info of the user’s current and queued output (be it music or podcast) to be read by any smart light service that asks (with permission from the user). Color roles We define colors based on the role they play in the interface. This is how I envision it happening Techwise: I imagine connecting both my Nanoleaf Account and Spotify Account to work together on mixing up the palette. You can also see that your songs will be associated with a random artistic picture on the same page. Click the music note icon in the menu, and you will be able to see your most played songs with color codes. I’d like to bring up the idea of a Spotify API working in conjunction with smart light makers, to bring a unique, ever changing color palette in respect to the user’s choice of: Album, Artist’s page, Playlist, Tone (as an after thought), etc. Palette will collect data from Spotify API and give a color palette result, explaining why you see the colors. The flashes of light are the same no matter the album, genre, playlist, etc etc. The best example I have is of the Nanoleaf Light Panels that will flash lights or change their colors to different triggers from music. Imagine if you will, playing music through your Spotify account and having smart lights reacting to the music you’re playing. With that being said I’d like to introduce an idea that I think would be quite cool for Smart Home users. Hi! To be clear I’m not so tech savvy as to know what I’m talking about 100%.
